I'm not the historian of UW sports that some of you are on here but was there any inflection points where there was an opportunity, in the last 40 years, for UW athletics that did not get pursued that would have avoided this? This just feels inevitable to me. Ultimately, I think the window for Wyoming to "matter" in the broader context of college football is barely open and may be closed altogether.
Maybe the $$ devoted towards facilities can, in the future, go towards players somehow?.I don't claim to know how that would even work. If that is the case (and I think that it is), then leadership should be identifying the next guy with an eye toward competing and excelling in the new situation. I don't say that dis-respectfully.everything comes to an end no matter how good you are. I don't think he will do that and it may not even be fair to expect him to do it.it might just be his time is really done. He applies his stubborn-ness and commitment to doing it in the "right way" in a new direction.taking the best of what he brings in stature and leadership into this new NIL/transfer world and makes a go of it. My best case scenario is this.Bohl see's the shifting forces that will make it very difficult to retain talent. This is not just true for Wyoming.but, as pointed out by myself and others, Laramie is not high on anybody's list of places to spend your college years. The moment that a player has a "better" opportunity.real or perceived, they will leave. Any slight advantage that Wyoming had in being able to get young, motivated, overlooked athletes to campus and shape them into great players is low and getting lower.
We find ourselves in a fundamentally changed landscape with the player freedom/empowerment movement. I imagine most of the posters on this board are much more ideologically and temperamentally aligned with Bohl than the younger "play for myself" mentality. (Not to mention the fact that you have to be a boy to begin with - there's no option to play as a female, so girls wouldn't be able to get into this one and find any eligible virtual bachelors.) The game also suffers a few frustrations in its handful of mini-games, where touch screen control sometimes feels a little spotty.I don't really like the characterization of Bohl as a "crusty old asshole".I see him as a man with character and principles, that being said, the tides of time seem to be passing him by. So players of EA's effort here might feel restricted, and replay value is definitely harmed.

The most successful games in this genre, in Japan, have offered a much greater variety of dating possibilities - heck, even Natsume's Harvest Moon series of farming sims always offers a least a half-dozen different single ladies.

Dating becomes a focus no matter which path you choose, as all games in this genre do - unfortunately, this is where Surviving High School also reveals its lack of depth. You choose your name and appearance, then step into a sequence of text-based interactions with different students and teachers at the school - your dialogue choices in these interactions then direct which of several possible paths your character will take through life. Surviving High School places you in the role of a new student at Centerscore High. And while it might be a fair first step into the dialogue-heavy, gameplay-lite genre for DSi owners, its subject matter leaves a little something to be desired - because, well, most all of us have had enough high school drama in our real lives to need a second dose of it virtually. Electronic Arts has checked in a contender in the uncontested space this week, called Surviving High School. Though pretty popular over in Japan, text adventures and dating sims are still a rarity here in the States - but DSiWare seems like the appropriate place for them to appear, if they're going to make a move on this market.
